Genesis REVIEWS: The List

In the ancient SNES/Genesis wars, I was clearly on Nintendo's side. Still, I mysteriously owned a Genesis, but I only had three games for it. While I had fun with one of the Sonic games, and with Sonic Pinball, I never could actually get the mysterious third game to work. While I later started playing SNES games, some of which were ported to the PS1 (FF6 and Chrono Trigger), or the GBA, I never played another Sega game beyond those two.


When I finished my SNES reviews series, I realized that the most fun I had was in discovering unknown gems. I knew I would like Super Mario RPG and the Legend of Zelda, but I had no idea about Terranigma. Hence, through my very limited knowledge of the Genesis library, I am more likely to be pleasantly surprised by more games.



Like with SNES reviews series, I am going to use a top 100 list as a basis for my reviews, this time from Retro Sanctuary:

So, I am going to review games that interest me from that list from 100 to 1. Like with my other review list, I am not going to review:
  • Games I already played (does not apply here).
  • Sports and Racing games; these genres have only gotten better with time.
  • Multiplayer Focused games, so that takes party and fighting games off the mix.
  • Genres and games that don't interest me at all, I am simply terrible at shmups.

  • Games in regular text are ones that I will not review. The reason I am not reviewing the game is in between the brackets.

The onset of 3D graphics in the 5th generation led industry leaders in animation, such as DreamWorks, to gravitate towards making video games. Some of those games, like Skullmonkeys , were visual and graphical masterpieces that still hold up today. However, other than its brilliant clay aesthetic and animations, the game is not a particularly engaging platformer at all. PS1 REVIEWS: Vandal Hearts II

While the first Vandal Hearts game was Konami's attempt at making a traditional Tactical RPG, its sequel was in many ways a complete revolution of the genre. Through its innovative "Dual-Turn" System and abandonment of fixed classes, it went out of the comfort zone of the first game. These changes could not have worked, and indeed, the new gameplay system will need some adjustments. However, thanks to a brilliant story that followed Konami's attempts at more "mature" storylines in the PS1 era, the game ended up being one of the finest Tactical RPGs on the system. #A16: Vandal Hearts II:- Year: 1999. PS1 REVIEWS: C-12: Final Resistance

Released at the tail end of the PS's cycle, more than a year after the release of the PS2, C-12: Final Resistance was incredibly late to the party. Yet, being so late in its release may have been in its favor, as all the development secrets and tricks for the console were uncovered by then. Unfortunately, despite taking advantage of vast collected knowledge in PS1 development, the game lacks the excellent application to make that knowledge count. It doesn't matter that the game may somehow be "technically" better than many other PS1 games before it because that expertise is in the service of a mediocre game at the end. #A32: C-12: Final Resistance:- Year: 2001, 2002.
