Greetings dear readers. My name is Lord Spencer and I have been blogging about video games since 2010. At first, I started a thread in a football forum to discuss retro games before I had the brilliant (crazy) idea of reviewing all the 100 games in a Top 100 SNES games list by IGN. That started my game reviews in earnest, but I didn't end up reviewing all 100 games, since I wasn't much of a masochist for some of the more punishing genres.


Later, I joined the wonderful gaming community of Destructoid and started blogging regularly in its community blogs section. I didn't plan to blog for long; initially planning to finish my SNES blogs ony, but here I am a decade later reviewing PS1 games. Unfortunately, the good times didn't last at Destructoid, and the community section disintegrated in 2022. Thankfully, much of the community stayed together and migrated to the wonderfully free realms of Cohost.

That didn't go well for long.

Still, the wonderfully resilient community of Dtoid migrated again. This time, you can find many of us on Blue Sky (writing under the #Blutoid moniker) and Pillowfort for longer posts. Feel free to come and chat with us: we are pretty nice people.

While I still blog in Pillowfort and share my posts on Blue Sky, I finally decided to start with my own blog. Hopefully google doesn't shut this place down (not like they EVER shut down a promising service).

Where the Hell is... :

This a series that I wanted to start for a long time. Many of the best game franchises for me have died as the generations moved on. The PS3 seriously crippled the Japanese gaming industry, and the mobile market attracted many of its talents. In this series, I take franchises that I am interested in, and write a full retrospective look at their entire history, and analyze why they died. Finally, I conclude each entry with a hopeful imagining of their possible resurrection, which in most cases is unfortunately as mobile husks of their former selves.

  From the moment the opening cinematic played, when the game's theme opening notes started and the music began to soar, I realized I was on to something great. That was my experience when I first played Grandia more than 20 years ago, and I am happy to say that my experience has not dimmed one bit playing it again on the Switch remastered port. If anything, I appreciate it even more now. Made by the same team that successfully brought Anime to life in making the Lunar JRPG games, their magnum opus on the Sega Saturn and the PS1 was, and may still be, the closest homage to the adventurous spirit of Studio Ghibli classics such as Castle in the Sky . PS1 REVIEWS: Disruptor

  Disruptor is a competent Doom-like FPS with little to deviate it from the scores of such games. It is worth remembering only as a footnote in the development history of Insomniac Games, which started with this unremarkable game and then went on to become a powerhouse developer. 99: Disruptor: Year: 1996. Genre: Doom-Like FPS. Publisher: Universal Interactive Studios. Developer: Insomniac Games.                   First things first, I am changing my rating system to a simpler 10 point system. Games that get above a 7 I fully recommend, and those that get below that are mostly a waste of time. That leaves the score of 7 to depend on your taste. "Walk softly and carry a big stick" Games in the 5th generation started to have more of a narrative focus, and games like Disruptor could not avoid having a story. PS1 REVIEWS: Dragon Valor

Released relatively late in the PS1 life cycle, Dragon Valor was touted as an Action RPG with some relatively decent graphics and combat. I don't know if that genre classification is what caused it, but the game was considered to be a mediocre ARPG and did not have a good reputation. However, I think if people stopped to consider what is the actual genre of the game, they may not have been disappointed at what it is not. Simply put, Dragon Valor is no more an RPG than Guardian Heroes on the Saturn was. This is a Hack 'n' Slash game with some minor RPG elements, and it was a good game at the time, but it is not worth it much today. #A69: Dragon Valor: Year: 1999, 2000.
